I made this page to help people understand SEO (Search Engine Optimization) better.
SEO is Search Engine Optimization. If you maximize your SEO you
can make it possible- eventually - for your web page to be successful.
What Search
Engine Optimization Does
When a web
crawler for a search engine, Autobot, or automatic Spider search
engine "crawls" your site, it takes a "picture"
of your site - taking into account how you did your html (or how
the program you used did it), how long your site takes to load,
how much content you have on your page, where your links go, and
who links to you, among other things. There are also other things
that the automated engine, or "spider" does. It notices
whether or not your page is following correct web guidelines.
At the end of its automatic search, it puts you on a list along
with all the other websites it goes to.
Why do
I want good Search Engine Optimization?
There are
many reasons that you, as a web page designer or owner, want to
have good Search Engine Optimization results. The main reason
is to get people to come to your web page (good web traffic).
If you have a counter (and I will put a link here on the page
to get one) you can see how many people come to your page each
day. If you check other popular sites, you may be able to see
that they get a LOT of people there each day. The more people
that come to your page, the more successful your site will be.
Question:
How can I improve my ratings on popular search engines?
Good Search
Engine Optimization will help you get better ratings. One reasons
for that is that sites that rate high on search engines get more
clicks because people see them sooner. Also, if people like your
page, they will link to it -- either on their page or on their
"favorites" section of their browser. You don't have
to fix everything at once, but if you work at it, you will improve
your page.
How important
is Content on my web page?
Content is
very important. The more content you have on your web pages, the
better. It simply makes sense. People don't just want to look
at pretty pictures on a site, they want to do things - learn,
play games, create things, have fun. Have you ever gone to a website
that only had "email me" areas? I know I have. If there
isn't anywhere to go - no links, no other web pages to go to,
the person at your site will not stay there. He or she will go
surfing someplace else.
The point
is to have the person stay on your site the longest time possible.
That way the person can feel connected to the site and might even
email you, if that is what you want. The more interesting or fun
a web designer can make a page, the better. Creating more content,
or linking to more pages on your site, does this. Do you have
a subject you are interested in? Do you want to share your expertise?
Just putting a few things about your favorite hobby on a connected
page will make your website better. "Optimizing" your
website can be done very fast creating more content, or information,
for your website. Even if you don't care about winning awards
with your website, you can make it more popular, easier to look
at, or less of a chore for you and others to navigate.
Where
can I find out about SEO?
I have found
some great websites while researching
Search Engine Optimization. These websites explain their business and have great tools available on their
sites. I have used the tools from the sites and really liked them.
I have put links to these sites on this page. Just click to go
to them and try the FREE tools on your pages. You don't have to
sign up or pay any extra money for their free services, which
is extra important to me because I have a limited budget. I have
had a lot of fun exploring these sites, and plan to go back and
learn even more. If you find out other sites you like that have
free SEO tools that are different from these or better, let
me know so I can put them on this page. Thanks.
